Women have about a 1 in 8 chance of being diagnosed with Breast Cancer, but it might surprise you more to learn 1 in 7 men will be diagnosed with Prostate Cancer. September is Prostate Cancer Awareness Month (Blue) and October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month (Pink), these are annual campaigns to increase awareness of the disease in our community.
For three years, the Praise Out Cancer Benefit Concert Foundation has provided help and inspire hope to those affected by breast and prostate cancer through education, sharing expert information and aiding patients by supporting cancer treatment centers.
The Praise Cancer Foundation (POCF) and the South Carolina Cancer Alliance (SCCA) announced a new collaboration to help reduce the impact of cancer in South Carolina and improve health equity in our state.
About The South Carolina Cancer Alliance
Founded in 2003, the South Carolina Cancer Alliance (the Alliance) has been dedicated to the prevention and early detection of cancer, improving the treatment of those affected by the disease, and minimizing the burden of cancer in South Carolina. The Alliance consists of more than 800 members who represent the state’s medical and public health community, academic institutions, governmental, and nonprofit organizations, and various community groups. About The Praise Out Cancer Foundation
The Praise Out Cancer Foundation (POCF) was found in 2017 to provide help and inspire hope to those affected by breast and prostate cancer through education and sharing expert information about cancer prevention and screening in our communities.
"Wearing pink means I care, but raising funds and motivating others says I want to make a difference.”
My involvement with the fight to find a cure for breast and prostate cancer goes beyond wearing pink or blue. In fact, just wearing pink or blue ribbons is not enough. One must be committed to raising funds and motivating others too. Therefore, we must remember our overall goal is to help those with breast and prostate cancer celebrate another birthday.
I became actively involved with raising awareness and funds for cancer in the fall of 2014. Since that time, I have organized or coordinated many school as well as community activities to raise funds and awareness. I have organized a community cancer awareness walk. Also, for 5 years I have participated in the Cooper River Walk/Run (6.2 miles) which is a fundraiser for cancer and other illnesses.
I am so grateful for the mission God has given me. So, join us as we Praise Out Cancer!
The Faces Behind The Ribbons is organized with the single purpose of providing support and promoting the efforts of the Praise Out Cancer Foundation (POCF). The goal of the Faces Behind The Ribbons is to generate community support for local cancer centers in their efforts to find cures for cancer, educate the people of South Carolina on cancer prevention, and improve the quality of life of those diagnosed with cancer.
The Faces Behind The Ribbons volunteers are ordinary people from all walks of life who have a strong interest in volunteering their time to work with POCF. Many of them have been touched by cancer in some way. Some are cancer survivors; others have had a loved one with cancer and have been profoundly affected by the experience.
That’s why the Faces Behind The Ribbons are committed to funding innovative programs that ease the burden of living with cancer, such as the Praise Out Cancer Grant. Because of financial support from the Faces Behind The Ribbons, the Praise Out Cancer Foundation is able to increase the level of awareness and the impact of prevention and early detection to our communities.
Please join us and make a difference in someone’s life.
