FULL IMPACT STATEMENT : "On the Move For a Cure" Cancer Walk

    Vance, SC — April 25, 2026

With clear skies, warm sunshine, and an undeniable spirit of unity, Vance Community Park became the gathering place for hope this past Saturday as the Praise Out Cancer Foundation hosted its impactful “On the Move For a Cure” Cancer Walk.

Drawing approximately 175 attendees and nearly 100 walkers throughout the day, the event was a vibrant expression of community strength, faith, and determination in the fight against cancer. From the opening moments to the final steps, the atmosphere was filled with encouragement, connection, and inspiration.

The day opened with the National Anthem and the debut of the Praise Out Cancer theme song, “Pink Ribbon,” written and produced by Thurman Phillip, Jr., a powerful moment that was well received and defined the mood for the day.

The walk began with energizing walker warm-ups led by Angela Brown of Vertical Ministries, setting the tone for what would become an unforgettable experience. Guiding the event with excellence and enthusiasm was Mistress of Ceremonies Kayla Gilliard-Brown, whose presence kept the crowd engaged and uplifted.

The event was honored by the presence of distinguished guests and community partners, including Michael Aiken, Sr., the Mayor of Vance, SC, South Carolina Cancer Alliance, Family Health Centers, Inc., and Orangeburg County Emergency Medical Services, along with Shirley Thompson of the SC Health and Wellness Team. Their participation reinforced the importance of awareness, early detection, and continued community collaboration.

A key moment of impact came as Alfred Charley, Director of the Praise Out Cancer Foundation, addressed attendees on behalf of the South Carolina Cancer Alliance’s Men United for Health Initiative. His message emphasized the critical importance of men taking control of their health through regular screenings, early detection, and proactive care—an urgent and necessary call that resonated strongly throughout the crowd.

During the event in collaboration with the Praise Out Cancer Foundation, the Family Health Centers (FHC) Medical Mobile Unit, led by Bridget Tyler Coordinator, showcased a fully equipped clinic, complete with two primary exam rooms and on-site lab services. This initiative is dedicated to providing comprehensive healthcare directly to underserved residents in our communities. By delivering high-quality, on-site care, the FHC Mobile Unit plays a crucial role in our mission to enhance the health of at-risk populations and empower families in their own neighborhoods. We invite everyone to visit: https://myfhc.org/ to find more information about Family Health Centers and the services they offer.

A special highlight also included, in another area of the park, outreach efforts led by representative consultant Kelvin Gadson of the South Carolina Cancer Alliance, who shared vital education on the five screenable cancers and strengthened partnerships that will continue to benefit the region. The event also welcomed Amous Clark, aka Reggie Fludd, who provided a generous clothing giveaway to attendees.

One of the most powerful and unforgettable moments of the day came when Travion Robinson took the stage to deliver an inspirational message. Sharing a heartfelt testimony of his personal cancer journey, Travion spoke with honesty, strength, and unwavering faith—captivating everyone in attendance. He concluded his message with a moving song that filled the park with emotion, leaving many encouraged, inspired, and reminded of the power of perseverance and hope.

The heart of the event pulsed through powerful musical and artistic expressions. Attendees were blessed by performances from the Jericho Baptist Church Choir, Liberty Hill Baptist Church Male Choir, and soloist Nevad Yarru aka DeAven Murray. Gospel artist Mekiella Young, known as “The Gospel Lioness,” and The Chosen of Orangeburg delivered stirring performances that resonated deeply with the crowd. Praise dancers “Chozen” from Red Hill Baptist Church added a dynamic and inspiring visual element that brought the message of hope to life.

Supporting these performances was a talented team of musicians, including keyboardist Corey Houser, drummer Davon Murray, and audio engineer Travon Tate, whose work ensured a seamless and powerful experience throughout the day.

Families and attendees also enjoyed a wide variety of vendors and activities that made the event both meaningful and enjoyable. Food and refreshments were provided by Fantastic Vibrations Food Truck (Stacy Bryan), Ida Mae Soul Food, Red Hill Baptist Church food baskets, and Green’s Grub on Wheels (Celestine Green), while unique goods were offered by PD Graceful Jewls (Pat Duggins), Southern HER-itage (Gwendolyn Benjamin), and handcrafted crochet hats by Linda Palmer. The event also welcomed Amous Clark, aka Reggie Fludd, who provided a generous clothing giveaway to attendees.

Children were not left out, as Summers & Sons Jump Castles brought fun and excitement for younger attendees, making the day a true family-friendly celebration.

The success of the event was made possible through the generous support of sponsors and donors who continue to believe in the mission of the Praise Out Cancer Foundation. Special recognition is extended to Rev. Charles Frazier, First Citizens Bank, Stephen Mason, Fermecia Fuller, Deloris Driggers, Roger and Mary Davis, Ken Garber, Priscilla B. Sumpter, and the many additional supporters who contributed to making the day a success.

Behind the scenes, a dedicated team of volunteers and foundation leaders worked tirelessly to bring the vision to life. Among them were Lizzie Green, Christine Syphrett, Greg Muarry (Event Parking Manager), Alfred Charley (Director), Mary Charley (Assistant Director), Malqueen Rivers (Spokesperson), and Rev. Francis Rivers, Jr. (Chaplain). Their commitment and service ensured that every detail reflected excellence and care.

More than just a walk, “On the Move For a Cure” created a space where awareness met action, where partnerships were strengthened, and where hope was not only shared—but felt.

“This was more than an event—it was a movement,” one participant shared. “If you weren’t here, you truly missed something powerful.”

And as the momentum continues to build, one message is clear: this is only the beginning.

The Praise Out Cancer Foundation looks ahead with excitement and determination, inviting the community, sponsors, and supporters to be part of what comes next. If this event is any indication, the next event will be even greater.
